DURHAM, N.C. – Durham County Commissioner Philip R. Cousin Jr. will announce his intention to not run for re-election at a press conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Old County Courthouse.
At that time, Cousin will thank county employees for their hard work during his tenure, then he will introduce and endorse Josh Parker in his bid for a seat on the Durham County Board of Commissioners.
“I’ve had the great pleasure of serving Durham’s citizens for more than 10 years, but now it is time to move on and pursue other goals,” Cousin said in a press release.
Parker, 24, is a Durham native. He attended Durham Public Schools and North Carolina Central University. He has served on many boards, committees and commissions, including the Cultural Master Plan Advisory Board, Inter-neighborhood Council, Durham Community Land Trust and Civic Center Authority. In 2004 Parker spearheaded creation of Durham Community Dinners, which bring together new students at Duke and N.C. Central universities with members of the local community.
