RALEIGH, N.C.– State Insurance Commissioner Jim Long has decided not to seek a seventh term. According to the Associated Press, he is instead backing his deputy for the job.
His deputy, Assistant Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, filled out his paperwork Friday.
Long was first elected commissioner in 1984. According to the AP, Long’s wife said her husband wanted to leave at “the top of his game.”
Goodwin is a former state House member who ran unsuccessfully for state labor commissioner in 2004.
