Hagan Challenges Dole on Energy Policy From

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan is opening a new critique of incumbent Sen. Elizabeth Dole, questioning her energy policies as gas prices surge past $4 per gallon.

Hagan will meet with consumers Wednesday at a gas station in Raleigh, talking to motorists about the high cost of gasoline.

The Democratic state senator from Greensboro has called for the repeal of billions of dollars in tax breaks for oil companies and increasing fuel economy standards for vehicles. Hagan’s campaign criticized Dole for voting last week against a measure that would have added a windfall profits tax to oil companies.

Dole had sided with fellow Republicans who said the tax would do nothing to solve energy problems. She’s seeking a second term in office.
