Tracking Voter Registration in North Carolina From

Press Release from Civitas:
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Civitas Institute released a new web feature today, which allows users to easily view voter registration.  It reflects changes over time and data comparisons since 2004 and the end of 2007, statewide, and in all 100 North Carolina counties.

The voter registration data displayed in this manner will be useful to anyone interested in statistical information on registration as the election season progresses.

“We hope this will serve as useful information for candidates, political parties, reporters and citizens interested in the process,” said Civitas Institute Executive Director, Francis De Luca.

This week’s posting shows that since 2004 the increase in unaffiliated voters is more than three times the increase in Democratic voters and more than seven times the increase in Republican voters. For both Democrats and Republicans, roughly one-half the post-2004 registration increase has come in the past eight months.

“In spite of the increase in voter registration, new registrants still make up less than five percent of potential voters at this time and it remains to be seen whether either party can convert a significant number of new registrants to votes in November” concluded De Luca.

The voter registration resource will be updated with new information on a weekly basis.
