At this point I really can’t tell as to whether or not Gustav will cancel the Republican National Convention. There are way to many variables at this point. For one, we still don’t know how severe the hurricane will become – and how much damage it will cause (they’re hoping for the best – preparing for the worst), and in all honesty – they could continue the convention no matter what happens considering the hurricane. So much time, work, and thought has gone into the convention – and changing its time could completely hurt/change campaign goals and timing. Interesting poll. Thanks for the thought.

As they say, poop happens. Natural disasters happen. If not a hurricane now, an earthquake or a forest fire or a tornado somewhere. I do NOT understand all the constant hand-wringing about whether it is at all acceptable for anyone anywhere else in the country to carry on with life, work, and maybe even a tiny dose of fun so long as somebody else in the country is under the crapstorm. Is the collective attention of the entire nation on a region absolutely necessary? If we’re all watching Anderson Cooper up to his waist in water and feeling sorry going to help anyone? Watching my football team and screaming at the TV has never helped them win, so I don’t see why our eyes are required on this storm. Send some bucks to Red Cross and elect a government that’s capable of disaster relief. Other than that, I just don’t get the obsession.
