Perdue Spent $9M In General Election Bid From Associated Press

Beverly Perdue spent at least another $9 million in the general election to become governor of North Carolina.

Perdue’s campaign finance report released Tuesday by the State Board of Elections showed she spent $17.7 million for the past four years. The campaign had spent about $8 million leading up to her Democratic primary election win over then-State Treasurer Richard Moore.

Perdue’s GOP rival in the fall – Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory – reported spending $6.4 million during 2008. More than $4 million of it was spent after his primary.

Candidates for state offices had until midnight Monday to file their final campaign reports for 2008. The records give the most comprehensive financial numbers for the candidates in the fall elections.
