RALEIGH, N.C. – Former North Carolina Rep. Frank Ballance is no longer under home confinement.
A Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman said Ballance was released from three months’ home confinement Tuesday morning. Ballance now must serve two years of supervised probation.
Ballance pleaded guilty in 2004 to conspiring to divert taxpayer money to his family and others through a charitable organization he helped start while in the state Legislature. He received a four-year prison sentence.
Ballance has been wearing an electronic surveillance bracelet that prevents him from leaving home without permission.
The Democratic lawmaker from Warrenton represented the 1st Congressional District in several northeastern counties for about a year and a half.
