Carrboro Board To Consider Contribution Limits

The Carrboro Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing on March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room to receive citizen comments on a draft ordinance that would establish a $250 limit on campaign contributions to candidates for town elected offices.

Information on the proposed ordinance may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office (918-7309, E-Mail: swilliamson@townofcarrboro.org) located in the Carrboro Town Hall. Citizens are invited to comment.

Orange County Celebrates Inauguration Jan. 18

CARRBORO, N.C. – Orange County citizens will celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama with a community bash in Carrboro on Sunday, Jan. 18.  Festivities will include Martin Luther King-themed performances by students and community members, music by six bands on two stages, discounts at local restaurants for inaugural celebrants and a dance party at Southern Rail restaurant.

What:  Inaugural Celebration in Carrboro
When:  Sunday January 18, 2009, 5 p.m. – 2 a.m.
Where: Century Center:  MLK Performances, Music; 5 p.m. -10 p.m.
Southern Rail: Live Music and Dance Party; 8 p.m. – 2 a.m.

All evening: local restaurants giving discounts for inaugural celebration participants

Cost: Century Center Festivities are free.

Inaugural All Access Pass – $10 or donation of canned goods.  Pass required for access to restaurant discounts and entry to the Dance Party at Southern Rail

The event is organized by Orange County Campaign for Change, which is inviting all Orange County citizens to usher in a new era in our nation’s history at this community gathering and celebration.

Elizabeth Edwards To Host Healthcare Roundtable

Elizabeth Edwards, senior fellow for the Center for American Progress Action Fund, will be in Carrboro Wednesday to discuss John McCain’s healthcare plan.  

The Center for American Progress Action fund, a liberal think tank, is preparing to release a report detailing how the McCain health care plan would increase the burden on middle-class families in North Carolina.

The report suggests North Carolinians will suffer a tax hike under John McCain’s health care plan. Elizabeth Edwards will host a round table discussion with public health experts at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Piedmont Health Services Community Health Center, 301 Lloyd Street, Carrboro.
