The N.C. Museum of History now features Gov. Bev Perdue’s Inaugural Ball gown and the First Gentleman’s tuxedo.
Traditionally, the Museum of History acquires inaugural gowns from the state’s first ladies. However, this year marks the first time a governor’s inaugural gown was added to the museum collection.
In addition to the inaugural gown, the museum has acquired another “first:” the tuxedo that North Carolina’s First Gentleman wore to the Inaugural Ball. Gov. Perdue’s husband, Robert W. “Bob” Eaves Jr., wore the black tuxedo with black satin lapels while accompanying his wife to the celebratory event.
The exhibit is called ”Elected to Serve: North Carolina’s Governors at the N.C. Museum of History.”
The museum is located at 5 E. Edenton Street, Raleigh. Parking is available in the Wilmington Street lot, directly behind the museum.
The N.C. Museum of History’s hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. The museum is part of the Division of State History Museums, Office of Archives and History, an agency of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.
