RALEIGH, N.C. –   Gov. Perdue’s NC OpenBook initiative, a single, searchable website that will provide detailed information about state contracts and grants, will launch within the next 30 days.

NC OpenBook, created through Executive Order No. 4 on Gov. Perdue’s first day in office, will increase accountability and transparency by posting information about state spending on the web.  The website will include information about all state contracts and grant awards in excess of $10,000.

“In order to be transparent, accountable and efficient in the 21st century, citizens and businesses should have ready access to information about government spending and grants on the Internet,” said Gov. Perdue.

The first phase of NC OpenBook will start next month and will include Recovery Act projects, purchasing and contract awards, ITS contracts, and state construction awards.  NC OpenBook is expected to be fully implemented within six months.  A state steering committee that oversees a fund dedicated for data integration approved $900,000 in funding to support Gov. Perdue’s NC OpenBook Initiative.
