TABOR CITY, N.C. – A 17-year-old who said a North Carolina state senator helped him build a house and buy a Corvette is back in jail after violating terms of his release on bond.
The Fayetteville Observer reported Tuesday that officers caught Allen Strickland near the Tabor City home of Sen. R.C. Soles, the 74-year-old Democrat who has been a benefactor to the boy and several other former law clients.
Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten says Strickland’s house arrest required him to stay at his aunt’s home.
Strickland posted bond after two arrests last month. He was charged with setting fire to the Tabor City home built with money from Soles. Strickland then was charged with leading police on a high-speed chase through the small town.

TABOR CITY, N.C. – A 17-year-old who said a North Carolina state senator helped him build a house and buy a Corvette is back in jail after being charged with fleeing police.
Allen Strickland was out of jail on bail after the State Bureau of Investigation last week charged him with setting the fire that burned the Tabor City home built with money from 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles.
Multiple media outlets reported Monday that police spotted Strickland driving, though officers said he has no license. Officers said Strickland roared away at speeds of at least 75 mph before wrecking the Corvette near the South Carolina line.
Strickland was charged Sunday with fleeing to elude arrest and other offenses. He again posted bond and has been released from jail.

RALEIGH, N.C. – A 17-year-old who said a North Carolina state senator gave him money for a home is facing two charges, including one that accuses him of setting that house on fire.
The State Bureau of Investigation said 18-year-old Allen Wayne Strickland was arrested Thursday and charged with fraudulent burning of a building and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
SBI spokeswoman Noelle Talley said the charges stem from a July 29 incident at Strickland’s home in Tabor City. He was released from the Columbus County jail on $100,000 bond. Strickland has told reporters that state Sen. R.C. Soles provided him with money for the home, and Soles said he’s also helped the teenager by giving him money for clothing and education.
An officer at the jail said Strickland doesn’t have an attorney.
